2025 vintage
It's done! The 2025 harvest is now officially over. The final stage was marked by our last Grüner Veltliner from our house vineyard, the cellar vineyard Ried Schnabel. After approximately twelve hours on the skins, the final must was pressed – a perfect conclusion to a year in which quality and quantity interplayed wonderfully.
This year, we were able to expand our Grüner Veltliner range to include the Sandgrube vineyard – a provenance that stylistically fits us very well. The real work now begins in the cellar: The majority of our wines, especially the Grüner Veltliners from these sites, are currently fermenting and gradually developing structure, freshness, and balance. The aromatic varieties – Muscat and Classic Muscat – are already fully fermented and are resting on the fine lees to develop their depth.
At the same time, several new projects are underway. Young winemaker Philipp is working on a fresh Riesling project; we're also testing a small Riesling Auslese, and our PIWI variety, Blütenmuskateller, has produced its first harvest – an exciting prospect.
For those looking forward to the first young wine: Our first, light-bodied Grüner Veltliner young wine is expected to be bottled in mid- to late November – depending on how things go over the next few weeks. Its flavor and harmony should set the tone for the new vintage and bring a sense of anticipation to the glass.
But anyone who knows us knows that the Mittelbach grape harvest isn't officially over yet: In selected vineyards, we've left Grüner Veltliner grapes hanging for a possible ice wine and are hoping for the right frosty nights this winter. A long-standing specialty that will hopefully provide us with some wonderful winter nights again this year.
Thank you for following along, for your encouragement, and all the lovely feedback during the harvest. We're very much looking forward to the coming weeks in the cellar – and to presenting you with our first impressions of the new vintage soon.
